IND vs NZ 2021: Twitter Reacts As New Zealand Openers Fight Back After Shreyas Iyer's Century On Day 2

New Zealand’s opening batsmen, Will Young and Tom Latham put on a display of composure and intent as they took their side to 129/0 at Stumps after Shreyas Iyer had put India in command with his maiden century.

Earlier, it was Tim Southee who first started India’s downfall in the first session as he helped himself to a 5-wicket haul during a long 11-over spell. He took all the wickets in the morning, each better than the previous one before Ajaz Patel cleaned up the tail.

Iyer did manage to get to his century but he couldn’t carry on and fell soon after reaching the milestone. He became the 16th Indian to score a century on Test debut in the process. Ravichandran Ashwin’s late cameo took the home side close to 350 before eventually folding up for 345.

In response, Latham and Young stood tall against the spin barrage. Young, in particular, showed no signs of nerves and instead took the aggressive route more often than not. He played convincing shots en route to 75*, while Latham played a typically assured knock and reached his fifty close to the end of the day’s play.

By then, New Zealand had scraped off 129 runs off India’s total and now trail by 216 runs heading into Day 3. The pitch is expected to open up and become more conducive to the spinners but if the Kiwis continue applying themselves as the openers have, the Indian players will be in for a leather hunt.
