SunRisers Hyderabad [SRH] have kept themselves afloat in the Dream11 IPL after they consigned Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB] to their 3rd consecutive defeat following a five-wicket win in Sharjah on Saturday.
Defending 120, Royal Challengers Bangalore needed an early scalp which is exactly what Washington Sundar provided them in the second over of the innings after David Warner mistimed a backfoot pull to give an easy catch to Isuru Udana at mid-on.
But the dismissal of Warner did not have any real effect on the scoring as Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha took the attack to the pace trio of Chris Morris, Mohammed Siraj, and Navdeep Saini to ensure that SunRisers Hyderabad finished the powerplay at 1-58.
Pandey looked in complete control but ultimately one-shot proved to be too many for the right-hander and he eventually holed out while trying to slog-sweep Chahal.
Chahal bowled brilliantly in his first two overs in which he gave away just 5 runs. A controversy happened in the 10th over of the innings when Isuru Udana clearly bowled a high-waist bouncer but the on-field official surprisingly did not adjudge it as a no-ball.
Saha, however, continued to chip away at the target, stroking occasional boundaries besides rotating the strike brilliantly. But once again, Chahal had the last laugh as he drew Shah forward before turning the ball away from him as AB de Villiers completed an easy stumping.
One wicket brought two for RCB as Kane Williamson’s painstaking 14-ball 8 came to an end in the very next over after he was undone by the change of pace by Isuru Udana to give Kohli an easy catch at covers. With 34 required off 46 balls, SunRisers Hyderabad needed the duo of Jason Holder and Abhishek Sharma to spearhead the fledgling ship. Holder announced his arrival with an audacious front-foot pull off Udana for a six to realize some of the pressure.
Holder [26 not-out off 10] survived a close LBW call in the next over, post which he smoked Saini for another pull stroke for a six before following it up with a lucky boundary to bring the equation to 15 off 39. Abhishek Sharma smashed another six in the same over before eventually falling while trying to do an encore.
But Holder ensured there were no further jitters as he smashed Chahal for his 3rd six to seal the game for his team.
A disciplined bowling effort by SunRisers Hyderabad consigned Royal Challengers Bangalore to 7-120
Devdutt Padikkal, who had earlier stroked a 50 against SunRisers Hyderabad, failed to emulate his performance and was knocked over by Sandeep Sharma for an 8-ball 5.
The dismissal came on the 5th delivery of the 3rd over of the innings after the southpaw failed to connect the wild hoike across the line, only to see his stumps rattled.
Sandeep Sharma gave another body-blow to Royal Challengers Bangalore as he claimed Virat Kohli for the 7th time in IPL cricket after the latter chipped one straight to Kane Williamson at covers.
The Challengers managed just 30 runs in the powerplay for the loss of the two crucial scalps, and it all boiled down to the duo of AB de Villiers and Josh Philippe to weather the storm.
AB de Villiers struggled to pick Rashid Khan in the initial part of his innings, managing just 8 runs off his first 15 balls, even as Josh Philippe played some enterprising strokes at the other end. With just 52 runs on the board after nine and a significant amount of dew already on the outfield, RCB needed a big finish at the backend to ensure they posted a competitive total.
The duo tried to up the ante after the 1st time-out, which eventually led to their downfall. While ABD, who had stroked Shahbaz Nadeem for a six earlier in the over, succumbed while trying to do the same before Josh Phillipe (32 off 31 balls) holed out to Manish Pandey at deep mid-wicket in a botch attempt to pull Rashid Khan.
Rashid Khan continued to weave his magic and rounded-off his 4-over spell, in which he gave away a mere 24 runs. Washington Sundar stroked two boundaries in his 18-ball 21 before eventually getting dismissed thanks to a brilliant return catch by T Natarajan on his own bowling.
With Gurkeerat Singh Mann struggling at the other end, the likes of Chris Morris and Isuru Udana perished in trying to up the ante against Jason Holder. RCB managed just 59 runs in the last 10 overs and just 27 in the last 5- the lowest between 16-20 by any side this IPL- to eventually end at 7-120 after 20.

Are umpires scared of Kohli and Dhoni? This was so blatant to not give it a no ball even after Williamson confronted him ??♀️

The absolute lolz of checking for three hours whether Chahal had touched it when Williamson was comfortably in. Almost as funny as having a soft signal for that sort of appeal. #IPL2020 #RCBvSRH

Washington Sundar has conceded a 5.80 rpo in the powerplay since the start of 2019 in the IPL.
Of the spinners to have bowled 10+ overs in the first six overs in the timeline, only Mohammad Nabi (4.5) has conceded at a lower rate.#IPL2020 #RCBvSRH #SRH #RCB

Unlike DC, I expect RCB to make this difficult for SRH. Dew is the issue though.

Those who are asking why is Gurkeerat in the team? Just play a Punjabi song and see who matches Kohli’s bhangra moves better. Huh. #IPL

Zero sense of responsibility from RCB batsmen. That includes their senior most ABD, with their spot on line. Shameful. #IPL2020

Gripping a bit… stopping. SRH have a tendency to collapse.
RCB somehow need another 55-60. And hope for not much dew.
