After failing to convert his starts in the first Test, Ben Stokes has bounced back in style in the ongoing second Test against West Indies as he scored a fine century. The star allrounder, who led the team in the first Test in absence of Joe Root, got the starts in the previous Test too.

The left-handed batsman scored 43 and 46 in Southampton as England lost the series-opener by four wickets. But Ben Stokes did not throw his start away in the ongoing Test as he went on to capitalise on it and score his tenth Test century. Before him, opening batsman Dominic Sibley had also reached the triple digit mark as the duo put England in a strong position.

Ben Stokes joined Sibley in the middle when England were reeling at 81 for 3. Another wicket at that stage would have firmly put West Indies on top. However, the England duo sent the visitors on a leather hunt as they put on a 126-run stand off 309 deliveries before the day came to an end. Sibley was unbeaten on 86 and Ben Stokes was not out on 59 as the day ended with the scoreboard reading 207 for 3.

The duo started in the same manner on day two as they did not take any chance and scored at a snail’s pace. With West Indies’ bowlers bowling a fine length, Ben Stokes and Sibley took no chances. The hosts scored 57 runs in 26 overs of the first session.

Before lunch was taken, Sibley had reached his century. His century off 312 balls is the slowest century for England since Michael Atherton’s 317-ball century against Pakistan in Karachi in 2000/01. Ben Stokes, on the other hand, was on 99 when the first session ended.

But it took him just three balls after the re-start to reach his century as he hit Roston Chase for a four to reach the milestone. He scored his century of 255 balls which is his slowest Test ton. Meanwhile, Cricket fraternity was quick to praise the England allrounder for his fine knock.
