After winning the toss, India captain Virat Kohli opted to field first in Ranchi, as the visitors came in under the leadership of their stand-in captain David Warner.
It was a short stay for the new skipper, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent him back on the fifth delivery of the match. Glenn Maxwell promoted up the order failed to contribute big, as he once again fell to the leg-spin of Yuzvendra Chahal.
Indian bowlers managed to restrict the destructive batting line-up of Australia to a modest total of 118-8 before the rain came in to halt the proceedings.
After a lot of delay, the hosts were set a target of just 48 runs in six overs for the victory, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started the innings, Rohit scored a boundary and a six before he was cleaned up by a brilliant in-dipper from Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan didn’t let the visitors to come in the game after that, as the duo finished off the game with three balls to spare and gave India a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series.
