Pat Cummins 4-34 and Eoin Morgan’s whirlwind knock has helped Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] knock Rajasthan Royals [RR] out of the Dream11 IPL following a

Chasing 192, Rajasthan Royals got off to a flier. Robin Uthappa smashed Pat Cummins for a six over backward square-leg on the very first ball of the innings before Ben Stokes pulled off one of the most audacious scoop shots you’ll ever see.

Stokes smoked a four and a six in the first over as Cummins gave away 19 runs off his first 5 balls. He got lucky on the last delivery as Uthappa picked out the deep square-leg fielder after he’d tried to flick another poor delivery by the Australian.

Shivam Mavi bowled four brilliant deliveries in his first over but he missed out on the crucial run-out chance of Ben Stokes after he failed to grab the ball, allowing the all-rounder to dive his way back in the crease.

But Dinesh (Bird) Karthik’s one-handed stunner on his wrong side on the first ball of the next over ensured that Tyagi’s miss did not prove to be costly.

Cummins redeemed himself big time as he claimed his third wicket in the same over after Steve Smith played it onto his stumps.

It continued to get worse for Rajasthan Royals as Shivam Mavi induced an outside edge off Sanju Samson’s bat to reduce them to 4-32.

Cummins claimed yet another wicket in his next over with a well-directed short delivery to Riyan Parag, who could only fend it to Karthik.

Jos Buttler played some delightful strokes during his 22-ball 35 but the pressure of the mounting run-rate meant that he just had to keep going for his shots. It eventually proved to be his downfall against Varun Chakravarthy as he holed out to Pat Cummins at deep midwicket.

Rahul Tewatia became Chakravarthy’s second wicket but his valiant 27-ball 31 and stubborn resistance by Shreyas Gopal [23 not-out], in the end, ensured that Kolkata Knight Riders did not leapfrog either of RCB or DC’s NRR, eventually finishing at 9-131 after 20 overs.

Jofra Archer [Photo-IPL]
Earlier, Jofra Archer once again provided Rajasthan Royals with a wicket in his first over when he knocked over Nitish Rana for his third golden duck in his last six innings. Archer’s pace, pinpoint accuracy and the awkward kick off the track that he always generates, meant that he only gave away three runs in his first 12 balls.

But as has been the case with Rajasthan Royals, Archer’s fellow bowlers did not really support him from the other end and Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi cashed in big time. Gill stroked Varun Aaron for three boundaries in an over before smashing two more in Shreyas Gopal’s first over. Rahul Tripathi joined the party as he flayed Gopal for two more boundaries in the same over.

The duo stroked two fours in the last powerplay over bowled by Varun Aaron to take the total to 1-55. Rahul Tewatia provided the much-needed wicket of Shubman Gill in the 9th over after the latter mistimed a slog-sweep straight to Jos Buttler at deep midwicket.

Kolkata Knight Riders once again sent Sunil Narine ahead of Eoin Morgan and the experiment once again failed as he holed out to Ben Stokes at deep mid-wicket for a 2-ball duck. The back-to-back dismissals proved to be a turning point in the game as the Knight Riders lost two more wickets in Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik within a space of 4.3 overs to get reduced to 5-99.

Eoin Morgan provided KKR with much-needed momentum by smashing Shreyas Gopal for two fours and a couple of sixes in the 14th over.

Andre Russell smashed Archer for a four and a six in the 15th over before he just laid into Kartik Tyagi for consecutive sixes. But one shot proved to be too many for Dre Russ as Tyagi eventually had the last laugh after the swashbuckler holed out at extra-cover for an 11-ball 25.

The next two overs bowled by Stokes and Archer went for just 12 but Morgan and Cummins cashed in on Stokes’ last over by smashing him for three sixes and a boundary as the former brought up his half-century. Tyagi continued to impress as he dismissed Pat Cummins and gave away just 9 runs as KKR posted 7-191 in 20 overs.
