No matter what happens in Pakistan cricket, their knack of being unpredictable will perhaps remain with them forever. No team in cricket is as unpredictable as Pakistan and the Men in Green showed it again on Saturday. After making light work of Sri Lanka in the ODI series, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side lost the first T20I by 64 runs in Lahore.

In-form Danushka Gunathilaka scored 57 from just 38 ball, helping Sri Lanka put a competitive total of 165 for 5 in 20 overs. Teenage Pakistan pacer Mohammad Hasnain took a hat-trick, finishing with 3-37. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 101 in 17.4 overs with Nuwan Pradeep and Isuru Udana taking three wickets apiece.

Pakistan started their chase in a poor fashion as their batting mainstay Babar Azam was out for just 13. On the very next delivery, Nuwan Pradeep sent back comeback man Umar Akmal for a golden duck. Ahmed Shehzad could not do much either and was out for just 4. A little later, a mix up between skipper Sarfaraz and Iftikhar Ahmed led to the latter’s run out. Eight runs later, Sarfaraz departed too to leave his side reeling at 76 for 5.

In the next three overs, Imad Wasim, Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf all fell, leaving Shadab Khan and Mohammad Amir at the crease. The match came to an end in the 18th over with Isuru Udana dismissing Amir and Shadab on consecutive deliveries.

Unlike Pakistan, Sri Lanka were off to a great start as their openers Gunathilaka and Avishka  Fernando adding 84 runs inside 10 overs. Debutant Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 32 off 22 with two sixes and as many boundaries while skipper Dasun Shanaka chipped in with 17 including two sixes as Sri Lanka crossed the 150-run mark.
