Twitter Wishes Zaheer Khan On His 40th Birthday

Updated - 08 Oct 2018, 01:07 AM

Zaheer Khan, arguably the finest pacer to have donned the Indian jersey,  turned 40 on Sunday (October 6).

Zaheer Khan was an integral part of the team that won the World Cup in 2011 and made it to the final in 2003. He was India’s top wicket-taker in both the editions. With 610 international wickets, Zaheer finished his career as one of India’s most successful bowlers. The left-arm pacer was the fourth-highest wicket-taker for India across formats. He also has the second-highest wickets tally – 311 – for an India pacer in Tests, behind the legendary Kapil Dev’s 434. He is also regarded as the best reverse swing bowler from India.

Zaheer made his international debut in 2000 and did not take long to become an integral part of the time. However, an injury saw him losing his place in the team for close to two years before a breakaway season for Worcestershire in 2006 brought his career on track. The left-arm pacer took a staggering 78 wickets in the county circuit and made a successful return to the team.

He finally became the spearhead of the pace attack after his dazzling performance during the tour of England in 2007 when his 18 wickets at an average of 20.33 helped India to win the three-match series 1-0. In ODIs, he played a vital role as the leader of the pace attack during India’s victorious 2011 World Cup campaign with 21 wickets to finish as the joint-highest wicket-taker. Overall, he finished his career with 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is, taking 211, 281 and 17 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, tributes poured in from all corners for  Zaheer Khan.  Here are some of the wishes for the pacer:
