In yet another surprise after Nepal upset India in the space of a day, Bangladesh Under-19 team followed in the footsteps – to register a convincing eight-wicket win over India’s U-19 side in the ongoing Under-19 Asia Cup 2017 Group A fixture on Tuesday at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

In the rain-curtailed fixture, Bangladesh had sprung a surprise – to outshone Himanshu Rana-led India in all departments. Bangladesh U-19 side played according to their potential to chase down the target off 188 in 28 overs.

With this loss, India’s hopes were dashed to qualify for the semi-final and Nepal is the second team with four points, as Bangladesh topped the Group A with six points in all three league fixtures.

The 18-year-old left-handed opening batsman Pinak Ghosh was the top-scorer, as he remained not out on 81 off 77 balls. He smashed six boundaries and three maximums.

On the other side, the right-handed batsman Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 47 off 32 balls. In his knock, Hridoy smashed four sixes and two boundaries. While chasing the target, Bangladesh openers set 82 for the first wicket in 13 overs, as Tigers U-19 side lost another wicket in the form of skipper Saif Hassan when Bangladesh was 108 for two in 17.5 overs.

For India, Mandeep Sigh picked both the wickets of Bangladesh U-19, as he conceded 36 runs in five overs. Hassan score run-a-ball 16 and opener Naim Sheikh before being caught by Anuj Rawat faced 44 balls – to post his score of 38. Naim’s innings comprised of three boundaries and two sixes.

Early on, the rain forced the officials to see the match to be reduced to 32 overs per side, batting first India posted 187 for eight on board in 32 overs.

The pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh was Robiul Haque, who bagged three wickets in six overs. The off-spinner gave away 43 runs. On the other end, Afif Hossain and Nayeem Hasan claimed two wickets.

For U-19 India, Salman Khan was the top scorer with 38-ball 39 runs, who remained unbeaten, as Mandeep Singh faced five deliveries to score seven which saw him walking out of the part alongside Salman. Interestingly, this is a second straight loss for India U-19 after Nepal clinched the game by 19 runs on November 12 which has taken certain quarters by surprise.

The competition kicked off on November 10, and the grand finale is scheduled on November 19.
