Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal had announced that the India series would be his last for Sri Lanka and he will be retiring soon after. Following the conclusion of India’s second innings in the Bengaluru D/N Test, Indian team head coach, Rahul Dravid, and batter, Virat Kohli, were seen congratulating Lakmal on his career.

Lakmal played 69 Tests for the Lankan team, taking 170 wickets at an average of 36.4. He is one of the leading pacers in the Lankan team and his absence will leave a gaping hole in the bowling attack.

Since it was a turning pitch in Bengaluru, Lakmal bowled only eight overs in India’s first innings where he picked up the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja. In the second innings, he bowled ten overs and conceded 34 runs without taking a wicket.

After skittling out the Lankans for 109 in the morning session, India once again batted with raw aggression and scored at nearly 4 an over right from the start. There were contributions all around with Shreyas Iyer top-scoring once again with 67.

In the process, Rishabh Pant also lit up the stadium with a blitzkrieg 50 off 28 balls, the fastest ever fifty by an Indian, going past the record of the former all-rounder, Kapil Dev, who had scored a fifty against Pakistan in just 30 balls.

In the end, they declared at 303/9, setting a target of 447 for the Lankans. It looks quite insurmountable on a surface that has assistance for both pacers and the spinners.
