Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Pat Cummins was the toast of their encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI), as he slammed Daniel Sams for four sixes and 2 fours and a total of 35 runs in one over, taking his team over the finish line in their IPL 2022 match.

The two teams clashed at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on April 6, 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. KKR were coming into this match with two wins and one loss, while MI had lost both of their previous matches.

Pat Cummins was one of the new additions to the KKR side for this match, who also included Rasikh Salam Dar.

Set 162 runs to win by the Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were in a spot of bother. They were reduced to 83/4 inside 12 overs as Ajinkya Rahane, Sam Billings, Nitish Rana, and captain Shreyas fell early without many contributions.

Venkatesh Iyer anchored one end with 50* in 41 balls with 6 fours and 1 sixes, but Andre Russell failed to show his trademark hitting style and rescue the match, as he fell for 11 runs with one six and one four to his name, leaving KKR on 101/5 in 13.1 overs.

While Iyer stabilized one end, Pat Cummins started off well, hitting two fours and two sixes to Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills, to bring down the required run rate. When Daniel Sams began the 16th over, 35 runs were required from 30 balls and the match was pretty even.

However, what followed next will be written in golden words in IPL and KKR history.

Pat Cummins slammed Sams for three sixes and one four in the first four balls. On the fifth delivery, he was caught near the boundary by Suryakumar Yadav and MI sighed relief, but it was later called a no-ball for above the waist-high full-toss.

Cummins continued the carnage as the next two balls went for a four and a six as he reached his half-century in an IPL record equaling 14 balls and finished on 56 in 15 balls with 6 sixes and 4 fours.
