Unusual Stuff! Watch: Shreyas Iyer Removes Helmet To Celebrate Fifty After Reaching The Figure With A Six Out Of The M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer smashed a quickfire 92 in India’s first innings on Day 1 of the day-night pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

He was tremendous in his approach against the spinners, who were extracting a lot of turn from the surface. There was uneven bounce as well to make things harder for the batters but none of it seemed to bother Iyer.

The 27-year-old scored boundaries at will while batting with the lower-order, trying his best to hog the strike and push India’s score further and further. Eventually, he fell in his attempt to smash a six, missing the ball completely and getting stumped by Niroshan Dickwella.

During the knock, he reached his fifty and proceeded to remove his helmet and raise the bat, soaking in the applause from the crowd. Generally, this is rarely seen but Iyer was enjoying the moment and deserved the support from a raucous Bengaluru crowd.

The Indian pacers did the star turn with the ball, putting to rest that the pitch was tailor-made for the spinners. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami combined to take five wickets while Axar Patel chipped in with one.

At the end of the day, Sri Lanka was at 86/6, still trailing India by 166 runs in the first innings. Only Angelo Mathews showed the stomach for a fight with his well-made 43 before he ended up throwing his wicket away in the dying moments.
