Cover driving James Anderson is an adventurous task; even the best of the batsmen – say, Virat Kohli – have found it immensely challenging to play shots against England‘s all-time highest Test wicket-taker.

However, following England’s emphatic win over India at Headingley, a little kid, not much taller than the bat in his hand, took on the challenge to drive James Anderson through the covers – he succeeded in threading the two cover fielders leaving the legendary pacer frustrated, mockingly, though, of course.

It wasn’t any international game. It was just a friendly game of innocuous cricket where the England players and their families involved themselves on Saturday. James Anderson, Joe Root, Jos Buttler were seen with their family playing at one corner of the Headingley ground. Bowling coach Jon Lewis and head Chris Silverwood also participated in the same.

Senior journalist George Dobell uploaded the video of this.

“James Anderson – with 630 Test wickets – looks on in mock frustration (I THINK it’s mock) as his cover fielder let’s one through. Root, Buttler, Silverwood and Jon Lewis (plus assorted family members) also involved,” he captioned the video.

Learning off James Anderson is invaluable at this stage of my career: Ollie Robinson

Ollie Robinson credited James Anderson for his success in Leeds where the master taught him the wobble seam delivery. Robinson, who had picked a fifer at Trent Bridge, snapped a five-wicket haul in the third Test in India’s second innings.

The young pacer feels grateful to have the opportunity to learn from Anderson in the nascent stage of his career.

“I noticed Jimmy held his wobble grip slightly different to how I and a few others held it. I spoke to him when we got to Headingley after the break and just tried to practice it in the nets. It went quite nicely. I tried it in the game and it worked quite well. It’s something I need to practise a bit more, but learning off Jimmy is invaluable at this stage of my career and luckily it came off today,” Robinson, the Man of the Match in the third Test, said.

With the series levelled at 1-1, both teams will face off in the fourth Test at Oval from September 2. England are likely to lose the services of Jos Buttler as he is to attend the birth of his child.
