Former England National Cricket Team Test captain Joe Root, who is a right-handed batter, tried to do something different in the Rawalpindi Test match against Pakistan National Cricket Team as he was seen batting left-handed.

The first Test of the three-match series between England and Pakistan is being played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from December 1 to 5. A lifeless pitch was produced for England’s first Test tour of Pakistan in 17 years and several fans and experts slammed the PCB and pitch curators for the poor surface. The flat Rawalpindi deck offered nothing to the bowlers and the batters from both teams piled up big runs.

In the second innings of the match, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam smashed centuries. The Babar Azam & Co. were bundled out for 579 as Will Jacks bagged a 6-wicket haul.

After the drinks break on Day 4 of the Test match, Babar Azam handed the ball to the 34-year-old leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood to bowl the 23rd over of the innings.

As Mahmood went around the wicket, the modern-day batting great Joe Root decided to bat left-handed. He swept the first delivery hard but was not able to get a run as the ball went straight toward the fielder.

On the second ball of the over, Root once again played a sweep shot and his catch was dropped by Naseem Shah at mid-wicket. Notably, after a few deliveries, Joe Root went back to his normal stance.

This was not the first time a right-handed batter was seen batting left-handed as Saleem Malik had done it during a Test match in 1986 and legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar also batted left-handed during a Ranji Trophy game.
