Kolkata Knight Riders’ punt of promoting Sunil Narine ahead of the likes of Andre Russell, Eoin Morgan, and Dinesh Karthik backfired substantially as the off-spinning all-rounder struggled to make an impact.
Narine was promoted to No.4 following the dismissal of Nitish Rana off the bowling of Chetan Sakariya.
Narine started off with a cracking boundary but he once again perished against Jaydev Unadkat.
It all happened on the fifth ball of the 9th over when Jaydev Unadkat dugged in a slow bouncer.
Narine obviously didn’t pick it and got himself into a pretty bad position in an attempt to pull the left-arm seamer towards deep square-leg.
He miscued it big time and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had earlier dropped Shubman Gill, did not make any mistake this time around as the young southpaw completed a brilliant diving catch.
It went from bad to worse for Kolkata Knight Riders as they lost their skipper Eoin Morgan for a diamond duck in the very next over thanks to a horrible miscommunication between the English skipper and Rahul Tripathi.
At the time of writing, KKR were 4/81 in the 14th over with Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik doing the repair job.
