Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18: Parthiv Patel Set to Make a Comeback After Three League Stage Games

Parthiv Patel is all set to make a comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament for Gujarat after three league stage games.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was not included in the squad for the league stage games, as he was yet to recover from the finger injury which he suffered during the third and the final Test between India and South Africa, last month.

Priyank Panchal was appointed, as the captain of Gujarat in Patel’s absence but now, he looks all set to take up the role soon on his comeback, after three games.

He suffered the injury on the fourth and the ultimate final day of the third Test. He was forced to leave the wicketkeeping duties, but Dinesh Karthik filled the void, as he was already there in the squad after he was called to replace an injured Wriddhiman Saha.

Royal Challengers Bangalore recently purchased Parthiv Patel in the IPL auction for Rs 1.80 Crore. He went unsold in the first round and only found a buyer in the second go.

Gujarat side already includes likes of Piyush Chawla, Chirag Gandhi, Chintan Gaja and Patel’s comeback will bolster the chances of this team. Though they will miss the services of Axar Patel, who is a part of the Indian team for the ODI and T20I series against South Africa.

Gujarat is currently playing their first game of the season against Tamil Nadu. The Priyank Panchal-led side is chasing a huge target of 312 and was already six down on 128 at the end of 26 overs at the time of writing.

The champions of 2015/16 season will have to look for a fresh start now, as they have to be in the top two in their group to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

Gujarat will face Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Goa in their next five league stage games.
