The biggest name that was missing from the list of the India squad for Nidahas Trophy 2018 was that of Mayank Agarwal.

The Karnataka opener is in the form of his life and has scored over 2000 runs in the ongoing season.

After having a torrid start to the season, he regained form and piled up 1160 runs in Ranji Trophy.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he is already leading charts and is on top of the list with 633 runs alongside his name.

He still missed the bus to the national side, and the team was announced at a crucial time.

The non-selection in the national side, even after piling heaps of runs, can have an impact on Mayank’s confidence in the final but Karnataka coach, PV Shashikanth thinks that non-selection will not affect Mayank’s confidence,

“He (Mayank) is mentally very tough and I don’t think the non-selection will affect his confidence too much. Personally, I believe he missed the bus by a whisker and sooner than later, he will get his chance in the Indian team,” he sad on eve of the final.

As per reports, it was the pattern followed that saw Mayank not being selected.

A player has to graduate from domestic cricket to India A before playing for India, as per new selection committee.

The pattern that is followed saw Mayank Agarwal not getting a place in the Indian team

Since all of Mayank’s runs have come in domestic cricket, he has show form for India A too so as get them in the national side.

India A’s next tour is planned for June; Mayank is out of the race until that period.

The chances of his selection in the national side will further slim when all the regulars will make a comeback.

In short, Mayank will have to continue his golden form ahead to be there in the Indian team.

For now, he has a big challenge ahead of him in the form of the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18.

The success of Karnataka heavily depends on the form of Mayank.

With three centuries and three half-centuries in seven innings, Mayank has shown that he is the player to look out for and his responsibility will double up in the final.

The final of the tournament will be played between Karnataka in Saurashtra at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
