Vijay Sethupathi has officially walked out of former Sri Lankan legendary off-spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan’s biopic ‘800’, after relentless social media outrage by Indian Tamils following the release of the poster of the movie.
Ever since the poster of the movie was released, there has been a huge social media furore, with Tamilians urging the actor to walk out of the movie.
The furor has been primarily because of Muttiah Muralitharan’s past stand regarding the atrocities and war crimes committed on Eelam Tamils during the two-decade-long Civil War in Sri Lanka.
Muralitharan had recently clarified his stance where he said that he too was a victim of the Civil War. The former off-spinner had also sympathized with Vijay Sethupathi for all the criticism that he had to cope with besides requesting him to back out.
And, now Sethupathi’s PR has confirmed that the actor has walked out of the biopic. Sethupathi has also issued a statement following the controversy, which states-
”I know that a few have been imposing pressure on actor Vijay Sethupathi to withdraw himself from the movie due to the wrong notions surrounding me. So, I don’t want a great artist from Tamil Nadu suffering because of me. I don’t want any other unnecessary hurdles in his career and due to this I request him to withdraw himself from this movie,” Vijay Sethupathi said.
”Every time I face hurdles, I don’t get tired. I battle it out, win it and that is why I have reached this stage in my life. This movie will be an inspiration for future generations to come and for young cricketers and will give them encouragement and will power. It was the reason why I accepted the making of this biopic. I am sure that the creators of this movie will make it reach such people despite the hurdles. Producers have assured that further information regarding this will be announced soon. I will stand by their efforts.” he added.
