Team India have received a mighty boost ahead of their second and last warm-up game before World Cup with their allrounder Vijay Shankar being declared fit. Shankar had suffered an injury to his hand while batting in the nets on Friday ahead of the first warm-up match against New Zealand in London.

Shankar was hit on his right hand during a pre-match training session. The all-rounder walked off the field in pain with a support staff carrying his bat and pads. As per reports, he received the blow on his forearm when he attempted a pull shot against Khaleel Ahmed, who is a net bowler for the India cricket team.

Vijay Shankar was taken for precautionary scans where the medical reports showed that the Tamil Nadu ace did not suffer any fracture. And Shankar is now looking all set to play the second warm-up game against Bangladesh on Wednesday. The BCCI posted a clip of Shankar’s batting session in the nets while writing:

“He was hit on the forearm at The Oval and we are delighted to see @vijayshankar260 back in the nets.?? #TeamIndia”

Shankar is likely to bat at number four against Bangladesh. In his absence, KL Rahul had batted at that position but failed to grab the opportunity. India, meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a crushing six-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand. Before coming to England, India had also lost their last three ODIs against Australia.

In seaming conditions, India’s batsmen failed to do well. None of the three opening options – Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul – managed to make a mark and all fell to Trent Boult. Virat Kohli got the start but was castled by Colin de Grandhomme, thus leaving the team reeling at 39 for 4 in the 11th over.

India eventually huffed and puffed to 179 thanks to a fighting fifty from Ravindra Jadeja. However, the score turned out to be too less in the end as New Zealand rode on fifties from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor took them over the line with ease.

The Men in Blue will open their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5.
