Despite the World Cup being just a number of days away, there is still no certainty over who would bat at number four for Team India. The spot has been the achilles heel for India for quite some time now and the Men in Blue are yet to get a fine player for that role. After experimenting extensively for almost two years, India tried out Ambati Rayudu but dropped him at the last moment. India will now have to choose from the likes of Vijay Shankar, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik to end their number four woes.

But while only time will tell who bats at that crucial position, former India opener Virender Sehwag feels that the team should be flexible regarding the batting order and should rather focus on winning the title. He also suggested that allrounder Vijay Shankar is the likely man to bat at number four.

“The team will decide according to the situation. In the initial games, Vijay Shankar may bat there. But the team will be flexible. If we are thinking of winning the Cup, we should not be obsessed with such those things. Anybody in the middle-order should be ready to bat between No. 4, 5 and 6. But one of Rohit, Shikhar and Virat has to bat for a longer duration. Someone should drop anchor from one end,” Virender Sehwag said in an interview to Times of India.

“Now that the team has been selected, we should back captain Virat Kohli and his boys. Let us all pray and wish well for the team. Unless we make mistakes, we will win. There is enough depth in the team,”

The World Cup, meanwhile, will get underway on May 30. India, on the other hand, will open their campaign on June 5 against South Africa.
