All-rounder Vijay Shankar will miss the upcoming quadrangular series involving A teams from Australia and South Africa, due to a hamstring injury, BCCI announced via a press release on August 12 (Sunday).

Meanwhile, Vijay was a part of the B squad for the one-day series that is due to start on August 17 (Friday). The Tamil Nadu all-rounder suffered a left hamstring injury during training sessions.

However, currently, he is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Vijay made his T20I debut for India at the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka but failed to impress. He was in the middle when the going got robust against Bangladesh, and Team India was on the verge of losing the final.

This will be a massive blow for the young all-rounder, who is on the radar of the national selectors as a bowling all-rounder.

Vijay Shankar made his international debut earlier this year.

No replacement named

Interestingly, the selectors have decided not to name the replacement for Vijay Shankar. As a result, the squad now comprises of 14 cricketers led by Manish Pandey.

The team looks formidable though with the presence of the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda and Siddarth Kaul. The U19 star Shubman Gill is also the part of the squad who will be eager to make a mark.

The pace attack, apart from Kaul, consists of Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya, and Navdeep Saini. On the other hand, Shreyas Gopal, Jayant Yadav and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja taking over the spin-bowling duties.

The team will face South Africa A in their first match of the series. The Proteas are currently playing the second unofficial four-day game against India A in Alur.

Updated India B squad: Manish Pandey(c), Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Ricky Bhui, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Gopal, Jayant Yadav, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Siddarth Kaul, Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya, Navdeep Saini
