Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane Break Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly's Partnership Record In Ongoing West Indies Test

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy in red-ball cricket, Ajinkya Rahane went past the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly with their eighth-century stand for the 4th wicket in the ongoing Test in Antigua.

Prior to the start of the match, Ganguly and Tendulkar held the record of most century partnerships for the fourth wicket. Kohli and Rahane just didn’t pull India out of a troubled situation but also went on to create a partnership record.

After bowling out West Indies on 222 on day 3, India did not have a great start as the visitors lost the wicket of opener Mayank Agarwal on a score of 30. KL Rahul had settled in well but missed a delivery off Roston Chase and in an attempt to play a sweep, he got bowled on 38. Cheteshwar Pujara did get a start with 25 off 53 but was bowled off Kemar Roach.

Ajinkya Rahane

Three wickets before a score of 100 put India in a spot of bother but Kohli and Rahane ensured that the blows do not derail India’s batting. At stumps, Kohli and Rahane were on 51* and 53*, respectively. India are leading by 260 runs and might declare after batting for two sessions on the penultimate day.

West Indies missed a chance to get Rahane in the 67th over. Kemar Roach had trapped Rahane in front of the stumps but the umpire did not raise his finger. Roach was keen on taking the review but it wasn’t taken.

After getting a big reprive, Rahane will be looking to make most out of it. The out-of-form batsman scored a brisk 81 in the first innings and will hope to touch the three-figure mark in the second innings.

Riding on his 81, India had scored 297 in the first innings. Ishant Sharma took a fifer with the ball to bundle the home side on 222 to help the visitors take a lead of 75 runs. For WI, Roston Chase top-scored with an innings of 48 off 74.
