Virat Kohli and Co. will take the field against New Zealand in the first Test with it’s sight at the trophy. Meanwhile, there is a lot more at stake. The team from the sub-continent have been on a good run. Apart from getting a stick in the ODI series, India have done well overall.

Team India have won seven consecutive Test matches and are now on the verge of creating a record. A win in the first Test in Wellington will help them achieve the feat. If India scripts a win, this would be the tied fourth highest streak in the history of Test cricket.

Playing at the Basin Reserve will test the Indian batters. India don’t have a fine record when it comes to Test matches but this team has the potential to change the tide. The warm-up game saw Indian batters hit form. The likes of Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw got off to good starts with the former hitting a fifty.

India look solid, Kiwis bank on home conditions

Hanuma Vihari scored a timely hundred and got accustomed to the conditions. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara too milked the Kiwi XI and hit a composed 93 in the first innings. The skipper said that wind will play a role. “The ball might not travel in the air a lot more when you are hitting against the wind. So you need to be prepared to run a lot more. It’s something we learnt the last time.” he said.

Virat Kohli aware of New Zealand’s threat

He is aware of the endurance of the New Zealand team and hence team India isn’t taking the red-ball duty lightly. The hosts will look to fire a the visitors as they now have a complete bowling set-up. “They are intense and very, very fit guys and they can keep going all day and test your patience, really skilled with what they do as both bowlers and batsmen and are brilliant fielders.” Kohli added.

Trent Boult will join Tim Southee but the onus will be on Neil Wagner to get India under the pump from the word go. The pacer was impressive against the Australian side and his short ball tactics paid off well.
