The Chief of Committee of Administrators (CoA), Vinod Rai, spilt the beans regarding the idea of providing a category for A+ grade players in the central contracts.
Rai named the prime movers of Indian cricket presently, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, responsible for the provision of A+ graded players in the hiked contracts.
For those unaware of the recent development in BCCI, the likes of VK, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshawar Kumar possess the A+ contracts. These players will get paid a lucrative amount of INR 7 crores.
All the players above mentioned sweat it out day in and day out for the country in all three formats of the game.
Interestingly, MS Dhoni was awarded an A grade contract since he only features in white-ball cricket.
VK and MSD- the brains behind A+ category
“This A+ category was proposed by the players themselves. We had a discussion about this category with Dhoni and Virat. They proposed that there should b a category of world-class excellence in which players who play all three formats of the game should be there,” commented CoA chief Vinod Rai.
“This should be a functional category where players move in and out. Also, it will show that the best in the business are rewarded as per performance,” Rai added while speaking to News18.
Rai also spoke about the camaraderie VK and MSD share between them. The former and the present captain of the Indian can often be seen marching their troops together in the limited-overs format.
“Their camaraderie is exceptional with so much mutual respect. Virat respects Dhoni’s cricketing acumen and Dhoni respects what Virat is achieving as a player,” quoted the former CAG.
MSD is irreplaceable, says Virat Kohli to CoA
As a matter of fact, Virat Kohli went ahead and claimed in front of COA that MS Dhoni remains indispensable to the team as far as white-ball cricket is concerned.
“Virat feels that there is no faster pair of gloves than MS Dhoni today. Als, Dhoni’s cricketing mind honed over so many years is an asset for Virat. As far as how many years of cricket is left in him, time and his performance will tell,” concluded Vinod Rai.
