Knowingly or unknowingly, Virat Kohli had caused a stir with his tweet on Thursday. Virat Kohli perhaps wanted to remind everyone of India’s famous win over Australia in the semifinal of the 2016 T20 World Cup. However, the fans misinterpreted it and thought that it was a tribute to MS Dhoni ahead of his imminent retirement.

Speculations are rife over Dhoni’s future and Kohli’s tweet further added fuel to the fire. The tweet had all the elements of making the fans think about Dhoni’s future. There was absolutely no reason to post that tweet and thus it set the social media abuzz. Within moments, Dhoni started trending all over.

In fact, MSK Prasad was also asked about the same when he was announcing the Test squad for the South Africa series. Later, Sakshi Dhoni, wife of Dhoni, also clarified the reports as rumours. Virat Kohli has now finally opened up on the incident and it looks like he has learned his lessons from it.

Speaking ahead of the first T20I against South Africa, Virat Kohli said that he did not think about the repercussions of posting that tweet. He also said that he has learned his lesson from the incident.

“I did not have anything on my mind, I was just sitting at my home and I just uploaded the picture. It became news, it is a lesson for me about what I think about myself, the world does not necessarily see it that way. That game is very special, I have not openly talked about it so that is why I uploaded the picture but people took it otherwise,” Virat Kohli said ahead of the first T20I against South Africa.

India and South Africa will lock horns in the first of three-match series on September 15 in Dharamsala.
