Team India’s juggernaut in One-Day Internationals under the captaincy of Virat Kohli as the Men in Blue clinched the thrilling third ODI by six runs at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Sunday (October 29) to register their seventh successive bilateral series win.

After being asked to bat first in the series-decider, India rode on centuries from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to post a mammoth 337 for 6 in the allotted 50 overs. India did not have the best of starts as Shikhar Dhawan departed cheaply. However, Rohit and Kohli not only steadied the ship but also set the platform for a big score by adding 230 runs for the second wicket. Rohit scored 147 while Kohli scored 113.

In reply, New Zealand came out all guns blazing as Colin Munro and Martin Guptill added 44 runs in just five overs before Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the latter. However, the wicket did not derail New Zealand’s chase as Munro and Kane Williamson set the tone for the chase with a 109-run stand before Yuzvendra Chahal brought India right into the game by dismissing both the batsmen in quick succession.

However, New Zealand once again revived their hopes after Ross Taylor and Tom Latham shared a 79-run stand.  With 30 runs needed off the last three and a well-set Tom Latham still on the crease, New Zealand were very much into the game but a dramatic incident saw Latham getting run-out for 65 in the 48th over. The visitors could not recover from that big setback and eventually finished on 331 for 7.

The win extended India’s series-winning spree under Kohli and the captain took to Twitter to post an interesting photo of the team’s celebrations as he wrote: “Great team work, amazing win! ?? Celebrations.. Jatt ji style! ?.”
