India skipper Virat Kohli has congratulated Ravindra Jadeja after the latter became the number one Test allrounder in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Tuesday ( August 8).

Jadeja has become Kohli’s go-to man in all situations and once again proved his worth by starring in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo which India won by an innings and 77 runs. After scoring an unbeaten 70 to propel the visitors to 622 for 9 in addition to taking up a couple of wickets in the first innings, the 28-year old bowled a decisive spell in the second innings, picking up 5 wickets including the wickets of skipper Dinesh Chandimal, centurion Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews. He was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant allround show and was rewarded for his performance in the latest rankings.

A delighted Kohli then took to Twitter to congratulate the ‘Sword Master of the team.

“Big Congratulations to our sword master Mr Jadeja for becoming the Number 1 test all rounder with @ashwinravi99. Well done Jaddu! @imjadeja??,” Kohli tweeted.

After the second Test, Kohli had also lavished praise on Jadeja in the post-match press conference.

“Guys who have both abilities are very rare to find. That’s where we think they’re very precious, specially in the longer format because they provide you with great balance. He can give you a very quick 60-70 anywhere at any stage of the game, it can really turn the game. Remember Lord’s, remember Dharamsala against Australia, those are very important innings, the 90 against England in Mohali. So it’s not just when the batters are doing well, his runs have come under pressure,” Kohli had said.

“Also, he has the ability, he believes in it and he’s worked extra hard in the last 10-12 months on his batting. He’s bowled so much that the other discipline was left behind, but now he’s catching up in that as well. It’s only going to do good to him. If he doesn’t bowl well on a particular day, he can score runs. Once he scores runs, then he gets confidence with the ball also. He’s always in the game, his fielding as well. I would say he’s a very valuable cricketer for us,” he had added.

Meanwhile, Jadeja would have to wait for a while now to play his next Test as he has been handed an one-match suspension by the ICC for throwing the ball in a ‘dangerous manner’ towards the batsman during the second innings of the Colombo Test. The third and final match of the series will be played at Pallekele from August 12.
