Former Team India coach and South African opener Gary Kirsten is of the opinion that it is Team India skipper Virat Kohli’s eagerness to learn about his game and keep improving on every aspect which sets him apart from all other modern greats in the game.

Star cricketer Kohli is regarded as the best batsman of the modern generation. He is expected to break all batting records in the coming years which is mostly led by Sachin Tendulkar.

Kirsten was the coach of Team India when they lifted the World Cup in 2011. Kirsten is currently in New Delhi as a part of the nationwide talent scout for his upcoming academy Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy.

The Proteas cricketer Kirsten further added that he loves working with the Indian skipper. He feels that upcoming India’s tour of England will be an exciting battle between the two teams.

“Kohli is a great player. He continues to improve and get better. I enjoy working with him because he wants to learn about his game and all great players do that,” the former South African batsman told IANS.

“India-England series will be a competitive series, it will be a good series. It will be great fun watching the battle between two great sides,” he added.

Kirsten gives his opinion on the shortest format of the game

Kirsten was further asked about his opinion on the propulsion of the shortest format of the game. Plus, how it is affecting the traditional format of the game.

The former opener accepted the fact that the shortest format of the game appeals to the younger generation more than the veteran cricketers.

Recently, Virat Kohli’s call miss One-off Test against Afghanistan hasn’t gone well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“I enjoy T20 cricket. It really appeals to the younger generation. It’s very entertaining, my kids enjoy watching T20 cricket more than anything else,” he remarked.

“Test cricket will always gonna be there. It’s the purest form of the game, people who have grown with Test cricket will always love it. But the only concern I have with Test cricket is outside of England and Australia, the crowds are waning,” he said.
