India skipper Virat Kohli‘s rising popularity has once come to the fore as the star batsman has made it to the top ten of the most searched personalities on the internet which had personalities from different fields, namely politics, entertainment, cricket as well as some controversial figures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi topped the list of the trend which is listed in Yahoo India’s Most Searched Personality in 2017.

Kohli was in the news throughout the year not only because of his on-field exploits but also for his off the field activities like his relationship with Anushka Sharma and consequently became one of the most online searched personalities of the ongoing year. Kohli was in the limelight right from the start of this year. In the last three Test series of 2016, he had scored double centuries and was handed the limited-overs captaincy at the start of the year. He then hit another double century in the one-off Test against Bangladesh before leading India to an impressive and hard fought 2-1 win over Australia.

It was followed by an impressive outing both as a batsman and as a captain in the Champions Trophy where India made it to the final and Kohli was the fourth highest run-scorer in the tournament. Series wins over West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand soon followed, making Kohli one of the most impressive batsmen and captain of this year.

Off the field, he remained in the spotlight for his relationship with his girlfriend and different brand endorsements. Recently, his video with Anushka Sharma for an advertisement had gone viral. Meanwhile, Kohli is dominating the headlines again for his stellar performance in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. He began the series with a duck but amends for it with a blistering century in the second innings. In the following Test in Nagpur, he slammed his fifth Test double century to lead India to a mammoth victory.

His red-hot form continued in the third Test too where he scored yet another century. In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (107) to become the second fastest Indian batsman to score 20 hundreds in Test cricket. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar heads the list, having reached the milestone in just 93 innings while Kohli got there in his 105th innings. Kohli also became the quickest to score 52 international centuries across formats, achieving the feat in his 350th innings to beat South African Hashim Amla’s record of 378 innings. He also went past 5000 Test runs in the same match today to become the fourth-quickest Indian to achieve the feat in his 105th innings.
