Virat Kohli and his teammates started 2020 on a stunning note as India thrashed Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second T20I at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. Living up to the tag of favourites, India remained ahead in the game throughout as they took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The series-opener was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Virat Kohli once again won the toss and elected to bowl first. The bowlers totally justified the decision by restricting Sri Lanka to a below par total of 142 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs on a good batting surface. The likes of Shardul Thakur (3 for 23) and Navdeep Saini (2 for 18) were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, India chased down the total inside 18 overs and with seven wickets in hand. In-form KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan laid the foundation for the easy chase by adding 71 runs for the first wicket before the former departed for 45. Dhawan departed soon too after scoring 32 before Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer added 51 runs to all but seal the win.

Secret weapon for Australia:

While India’s bowling lineup looks more or less settled, Virat Kohli has said that the team could have a secret weapon when it travels to Australia later this year for the T20 World Cup. The captain mentioned the name of uncapped bowler Prasidh Krishna and lavished praise on him.

While Krishna is yet to make his India debut or earn call from the national team, he has been doing well for Karnataka and in IPL. He hogged the limelight for the first time in 2018 IPL by impressing for Kolkata Knight Riders after being signed up as an injury replacement.

“I think one guy will be surprise package going to Australia. Prasidh Krishna is someone who has bowled really well in domestic cricket,” said Virat Kohli.

“We need balance, and you need more than five bowlers in T20 cricket. It was a really good surface, and we pulled things back really well. We kept picking wickets, and we didn’t let them to 170-175, which I thought would have been a par score,” he added.

Well, if Prasidh Krishna keeps performing in the same manner like he has done in the past couple of seasons, he can make it to Australia. He has already impressed Kohli and now only needs to deliver even more.
