The Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB] picked up a dominant eight-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals thanks to brilliant knocks from rookie opener Devdutt Padikkal [63 off 45 balls] and skipper Virat Kohli, who signaled a return to his very best, with a calm-and-collected unbeaten 72, as they gunned down the target of 6-154 with ridiculous ease.

Skipper Virat Kohli was naturally ecstatic at the post-match interview on picking two important points, leading his side to the top of the table in IPL 2020. Kohli also spoke about his indifferent form in the leadup to the game, adding that when the team does well, it gives a player to take his time and apply himself, and that is exactly what he did against Rajasthan Royals.

With Devdutt Padikkal going great guns at the other end, Kohli initially played second fiddle before eventually regaining his groove to it some delightful strokes.

”Very important two points. The kind of game we had last time, it’s very important to back that up. It was warm, but coming from Dubai, this felt better because of the breeze. It’s a funny game, an amazing game and I was telling Jos that I love this game and hate it too; it’s something you need to understand [bad form] but when the team’s doing well, you get more time to apply yourself. This tournament can get away from you very quickly,” Virat Kohli said in the post-match conference.

‘He’s a smart guy’- Virat Kohli on Devdutt Padikkal

Unlike the last few seasons, RCB has got off to a brilliant start this year after having won three out of their first four fixtures. Kohli added that the team needs to keep up the momentum. The RCB captain was full of praise for Devdutt Padikkal, who once again impressed with his solid strokeplay and his temperament, adding that he is a smart guy who understands his game well.

”When you start losing initially, the games start going quickly and suddenly you realise 8 games are gone and you don’t have points. We need to keep up the momentum. There wasn’t much to reveal [to Devdutt] and I told Simon this guy’s got serious talent – reach, and a great eye. And a left-hander, very clean shots You hardly feel he’s taking risks, you get that feeling rarely at this level. Today he carried from 40 to 65 odd, so he’s a smart guy and he understands the game well,” he concluded.
