Virat Kohli will be making his return to cricket in the upcoming first T20I against Australia after a much-needed break. The India skipper had left the team in New Zealand after guiding it to an unassailable 3-0 lead to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of international cricket. Consequently, he missed the following two ODIs and the subsequent three-match T20I series.

Prior to that, he had a gruelling stay in the southern hemisphere. Kohli was the only Indian player to play in all the games since India landed in Australia before he was granted rest by the team-management. The India skipper will eye an impressive return when India take on Australia in the upcoming T20I and ODI series. India will host Australia for two T20Is and five ODIs.

And while Kohli will be looking to hit the ground running on his comeback, he will also a chance to create unique feat in the shortest format of the game if he scores one fifty in the two-match series.

The 30-year old has so far scored five half-centuries against Australia which is the joint-most by a batsman in the T20I format against any opposition. He currently shares the record with Sri Lank’s Kusal Perera. However, if Kohli scores a fifty in either of the two matches, he will be the batsman to have the most T20I fifties against a single opposition.

Kohli, nonetheless, enjoys a stellar record against Australia in T20Is. So far, he has amassed 488 runs in 13 T20I innings against Australia at an average of 61. His run-tally against Australia is the most by a batsman against any opposition, standing 25 runs clear of second-placed Martin Guptill (versus Pakistan).  Kohli will also become the first player to score 500 T20I runs against a single opposition if he scores 12 more runs.
