Former Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Moin Khan has said that India skipper Virat Kohli is the only batsman in the current generation who is destined to become a legend. While it would be a bold statement to say that no other batsman from this generation would go on to become a legend, there is little doubt that Virat Kohli is destined to retire from the game as an all-time legend.

The India batting mainstay is currently the number one ODI and Test batsman in the world. Virat Kohli is well ahead of his contemporaries if his records in all the three formats is taken into account. While he is already regarded as an all time great in ODIs, he is looking to end his career as an all time great in Tests and T20Is too.

He is currently the leading run-scorer in T20Is. In ODIs, he has scored more than 11,000 runs with the help of 43 tons while in Tests, he has scored more than 7,000 runs with the help of 27 tons. He has also scored 104 international fifties and is the only batsman with average of more than 50 in all the three formats.

No surprises then that Moin Khan rates Virat Kohli so highly and thinks that he would be the only man from the current generation to retire as a legend of the game. Moin Khan also expressed his disappointment over the quality of cricketers in the current Pakistan team.

“I see Kohli as the only one among the current generation of batsman who is destined to break many records as well as become a legend,” he told GTV News channel.

“I look at the Pakistan team and we lack match-winners or game changes like we had in the 80s or 90s. When I was in the team they were so many match-winners and we all knew someone would do it that day. That was class,” he added.

He was also critical of Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq for accepting the dual responsibility.

“In our cricket culture which is different from other nations this experiment is not working. Imagine the state of mind of a player in the dressing room. If he shares something about his game or personal life with the head coach, which players do, he must think twice about it because the head coach is also the chief selector,” he said.
