Perhaps, there would be hardly a day being passed in the Indian sports news without the name of Virat Kohli in it. Somewhere the other, he keeps coming on the headlines for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, in the latest, the head coach of India, Ravi Shastri lauds the work ethic of Virat Kohli and revealed that Kohli reminds him of Imran Khan.

Recently, Virat Kohli became the first player in history to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. And also, ICC Cricketer of the Year, the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards following an extraordinary 2018. He was adjudged as the captain of the ICC teams as well.

It was a phenomenal effort by Virat Kohli – Ravi Shastri

The head coach quoted that the awards in Annual programme by ICC revealed the greatness of Virat Kohli. He feels that the achievements made by Kohli aren’t going to happen any sooner in the International cricket.

”To carry that kind of pressure of captaincy and clean up all the individual ICC awards as well is phenomenal. We have had great players who struggled to handle pressure when they were captain. Then we had some captains who didn’t know what number to bat at – when they are good enough to go at number three, but they chose to go at six or seven,” he quoted to Cricbuzz.

Virat Kohli is closest to Sir Vivian Richards:

He lauded Kohli for knocking the runs despite carrying the heavy burden of the team. Shastri believes that one can’t see such a glorious effort from any other player in the near future. On comparison to Imran Khan, Ravi spoke about the discipline in leading the team and the standards he is setting for the youngsters.

“But here is a guy who is as dominant as Sir Vivian Richards. The closest I have seen to the great man. Virat is in your face, he wants to dominate and has a work ethic like no one else. Whether it comes to discipline, training, sacrifice or self-denial, it is unbelievable. I think India is lucky to have a leader of that sort. He reminds me of Imran Khan in many ways — in the way he sets the example and sets the standards, and goes about defining it in his own way and leading from the front.

Currently, Virat Kohli is away from the team, as he has been rested for the last couple of ODI games. He will also miss the upcoming 3-match T20I series for the Indian National Cricket Team. In his absence, Rohit Sharma will lead the side.

Virat Kohli will return to the game of cricket when Australia visits India for an ODI series. After that, he will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are yet to win a single championship.
