The Delhi Cricket Team has got their best person back in the coaching panel. The former Delhi batsman KP Bhaskar has once again appointed as the head coach of the senior team. Meanwhile, the childhood coach of Virat Kohli, Rajkumar Sharma is appointed as the bowling coach of the team.

The 56-year-old Bhaskar was Delhi’s coach during the 2017-18 season when they lost to Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy final at Indore. However, a public bust-up with Gautam Gambhir during a domestic tournament in Odisha led to his ouster after the former India star had accused him of promoting factionalism.

Mithun Manhas replaced Bhaskar during the 2018-19 season where the team didn’t particularly do well. Now, once again, the board asked the former batsman to take over the mantle in the same role while Gautam Gambhir has retired from the game.

Bhaskar tasted success between 1983 and 1989 in the Ranji Trophy where he averaged about 70. Although he did not play for India, he was once a standby for India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 1985. He has represented the Rest of India to play against Bombay in Nagpur and he scored a century in the second innings.

Rajkumar, India captain Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, represented Delhi in 9 first-class matches. In 2016, the offspinner was awarded the Dronacharya Award for the success of Kohli on the international stage.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of KP Bhaskar as head coach and Rajkumar Sharma as bowling coach of the senior men’s team. We wish them luck for the season,” wrote DDCA on its official Twitter handle.

With just one win in eight games, Delhi finished bottom of Group B in 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. They finished runners-up to Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the 50-overs competition. All in all, bringing the best man into the setup is always a brilliant option for the board.
