Virat Kohli’s India Bags ICC Test Championship for the Third Year on a Trot

Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India has finished on the top of the ICC Test rankings for the third time in a row. With this, they have had sealed ICC Test Championship mace for the third consecutive year.

Owing to the cut-off date marked as April 1, Team India has ensured their number one position with 116 rating points.

Following this achievement, India has bagged USD one million purse for the major achievement. Recently, India has scripted history on Australian soil.

The consistent show from India has further pushed the strong case for India for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship. The championship is scheduled to kick-off this year.

It has been evident over the years that Kohli-led India has been a dominant force to reckon while donning the whites.

In between, overall nine Test playing nations will partake in 71 Tests which is spread over 27 series.
Thus, the finale of the champions will be held in 2021.

Besides, the top-notch team is way ahead of New Zealand led by Kane Williamson. The Kiwis are at the second spot with 108 ranking points.

The 30-year-old Kohli has weighed in on the significance of the traditional format. He maintained it’s the format which helps the batsmen to relish in such multi-day format.

“We all know of the importance of Test cricket and of how only the best can prosper in the format,” ICC release quoted Kohli as saying.

On the other side, Kohli has already expressed his joy for the Test format. He reiterated it’s a proud moment for the whole team to lay hands on the coveted ICC Test Championship mace.

Kohli further maintained the consistent performance from India has augured well for the players to reaping the rewards.

“Retaining the ICC Test Championship Mace once again is something we are all really proud of. Our team has been doing well across formats but it gives us extra pleasure to come out on top of the Test rankings,” Kohli added.

Furthermore, Williamson has also expressed excitement for finishing as the second-best on ICC Test team rankings.

“It’s been especially pleasing to see the consistency we’ve shown in the longest form of the game over a decent period of time,” Willaimson further added.

Moreover, Kohli noted that Test championship adds a lot to the multi-day cricket. He added there’s a ‘depth’ within the team and that’s a positive sign in a nutshell.

“Our team has a lot of depth and I am sure this will stand us in good stead once the ICC World Test Championship commences later this year. That is again something we are really looking forward to as it adds more context to Test match cricket,” Kohli added.

Apart from it, the successor of David Richardson, Manu Sawhney has hailed Team India for retaining the ICC Test championship.

“I congratulate India on retaining the ICC Test Championship Mace. And appreciate the passion Virat Kohli’s team has shown across formats over the past few years,” Sawhney concluded.

Concurrently, Kohli is partaking in the Indian Premier League (IPL), before leading his team in the 2019 World Cup.
