There is absolutely no stopping Team India as they consolidated their position at the top of the table in ICC Test Championship. The Virat Kohli-led side thrashed South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in the second Test to go 2-0 up in the three-match series. The visitors never looked in contention to save the game as they were all out for just 189 on day four.
India captain Virat Kohli led the way by scoring a sublime unbeaten double century in the first innings of the match, helping his team post a mammoth total of 601 for 5 (declared). In reply, South Africa were all out for 275. India then did not hesitate in enforcing the follow-on on the fourth day after taking a huge 326-run lead.
In reply, South Africa once again faltered with the bat and were all out for just 189. The writing was very much on the wall after they lost their first five wickets for just 79 runs. At one stage it looked like South Africa would not even manage to touch the 150-mark. But the lower-order batsmen provided some much-needed resistance to provide some respectability to the total.
The win was India’s fourth consecutive win ever since the ICC Test Championship started. Prior to the ongoing series, the world number one Test side had blanked West Indies in a two-match series. India now have 200 points in the Test Championship and is also the first side to touch the 200-point mark.
Delighted with the team’s performance, former India batsman Virender Sehwag took to Instagram to lavish praise on the team. The legendary batsman congratulated the team for the 11th straight series win at home, writing:
“Congratulations Team India on a world record 11th consecutive Test series win. Great all-round performance and 200 points now in the World Test Championship, great beginning. #indvsa”
