Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag lashed out at selectors for earlier dropping Rohit Sharma from the Test side. Rohit had done well against Sri Lanka in the home series. Subsequently, he was picked for the South Africa tour. Rohit got his chances for the first two Test matches against the Proteas. However, he was not able to grab his opportunity with both hands.

Thus, Rohit Sharma could not find his place in the Test squad for the tour of England. Meanwhile, Rohit continued to perform to the best of his ability in the limited overs format. Therefore, Rohit was able to break into the Test squad for the forthcoming tour of Australia.

Rohit has been in sublime form in the white ball version.

There isn’t much swing on offer in the Australian conditions. Consequently, Rohit can come good in the upcoming Test series. Rohit has been consistent in the white ball version, however, he hasn’t been able to repeat the same magic in the red ball format.

“When he played at home against Sri Lanka, he scored a century and a half-century. He failed in two Tests against South Africa and was ruled out then, not even getting selected for England Tests. How many batsmen scored runs in South Africa? Why only Rohit Sharma was left out? Selectors should answer this. Why did they drop Rohit? He has scored three double-centuries in ODIs, is he so bad that he did not find a place in the Test team? I don’t think so. There is no player in the world who is scoring runs in ODIs and isn’t playing Test cricket. The opposite happens,” Virender Sehwag was quoted as saying by Sports Tak.

Rohit likes the ball to come on to the bat and he has a good backfoot play. As the Australian pitches yield good bounce and pace, there is a probability that Rohit Sharma can succeed on the Down Under tour.

India will play three T20Is, four Test matches and three ODIs on the Australian tour. The first T20I will take place on November 21.
