Test cricket, the purest form of the game, has started to lose its sheen ever since the inception of Twenty Internationals (T20Is.) It has also become a format which is less relied by the cricketers of the current generation. The longest format tests multiple aspects of a cricketer while the shortest is much easier to execute.

Amid the already depriving love for Test cricket, a four-day Test could become mandatory from the 2023 edition of the World Test Championship, as being discussed by ICC’s cricket committee. The step is being considered to reduce pressure on the global cricket calendar for the future. However, with the discussion with the member cricket boards on, it still remains to be seen if it gets a green signal.

VVS Laxman not really a fan of four-day Test cricket

VVS Laxman has been one of the greatest ambassadors of Test cricket and he is not in favour of playing it in a four-day format. Laxman feels it will not bring out desired result like the five day format usually does.

“I am not really a fan of this four-day Test cricket, five days fits perfect because it gets more results and reducing it the four days will not achieve the desired results according to me,” Laxman said while speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’ show.

“Another point aspect is the toss, especially during the overseas tour the captain from the visiting side gets to decide what he wants to choose because we want to see teams travelling and winning matches on away turf which makes it more interesting for spectators,” he added.

Most ex-cricketers turned pundits have not favoured the four-day format. They have been critical about it but the governing body of cricket is considering the format to fit in more events in a calendar year. It is also keeping in account the domestic T20 leagues and bilateral series.
