India’s legendary domestic batsman, Wasim Jaffer has revealed that the double-century he scored against Pakistan in 2007 is his favourite innings of all time. Wasim Jaffer — the Indian domestic circuit hero, has hung his boots. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect on March 7 this year. The 42-year-old, Jaffer who is also the highest run-scorer in the history of Ranji Trophy, played 31 Tests and two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 2000-2008.

The knock that Jaffer is talking about came in the second Test of Pakistan’s tour of India at Kolkata in the year 2007. Although Jaffer scored a magnificent double hundred in India’s first innings, the Men in Blue couldn’t win the Test match as it ended in a draw. Jaffer played an excellent knock of 202 runs in 274 balls, and his innings included 34 boundaries.

Jaffer has now revealed that his knock against Pakistan is his all-time favourite knock because of the control he had on his batting.

Wasim Jaffer Picks His All-Time Favourite Innings In Tests

“If you’re putting me at gunpoint, then I would pick the double hundred against Pakistan in the 2007 Kolkata Test. Those were good batting conditions, but everything was hitting the middle of the bat. The ball was travelling exactly where I wanted it to. I felt so much in control against a high-quality Pakistan attack,” said Jaffer.

“The whole experience – the touch and sound of the bat, the heave and roar of the Eden Gardens crowd – was kind of sensorial. On the first day, I was batting on 192 despite getting about 85 overs of play. Later, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf had nice things to say about me. I played a lot of cricket with Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saqlain Mushtaq for Lashings in the UK. They too believe I should have played more for India,” Jaffer added.

He said, “These words are a cricketer’s true wealth. But I’ve no regret- God only gives you so much that you can handle. My mantra was always to prepare really well, work very hard and then leave the rest to the Almighty. And end of the day be content with what he has given you.”

Jaffer Has Had A Legendary Domestic Career For India

Jaffer holds multiple records to his name in the Ranji Trophy – the premier domestic cricket tournament of India.
