Ajinkya Rahane continued his recent resurgence as he scored a fine century on Sunday in the ongoing third Test against South Africa. It is his first century in India since 2016 and eleventh overall. The right-handed batsman resumed batting on Sunday on his overnight score of 83. He did not take long to get off the mark as he hit a cracking cover drive off  pacer Anrich Nortje.

He then reached the triple-digit mark off just 169 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and a six. The century is Rahane’s 4th Test hundred at home. Prior to his latest knock, Rahane, who had endured a terrible time in Tests in recent months, had not scored a hundred at home since hitting 188 against New Zealand in Indore on October 8, 2016.

Ajinkya Rahane has been in fine form since the start of the season. He ended his 2-year wait for a Test hundred with a century against West Indies during the tour of Caribbeans. Before that century in Antigua, he had not scored a hundred in 29 innings in Test cricket. His knock, meanwhile, has put India in a strong position.

Ajinkya Rahane joined opener Rohit Sharma when India were reeling at 39 for 3. But the duo did not let South Africa made further inroads in the game as they made sure India do not lose any more wicket on day one. Both the batsmen were looking in good touch. And while Rohit reached his century on day one itself, Rahane had to wait for the next day to reach the landmark.

The Mumbai batsman, nonetheless, won more hearts with his action after his dismissal. He walked off the field without even waiting for the umpire’s decision after George Linde made him edge one to the wicketkeeper. It was the faintest of the edges and it would have been interesting to see the umpire’s decision. However, Rahane knew he had edged the ball and walked off straightaway.
