No one was giving Australia a chance of winning the game when England was comfortably placed at 47 for no loss in pursuit of Australia’s modest 128-run target in the quarterfinal of the ICC U-19 World Cup.

The game, however, turned on its head when Lloyd Pope took two wickets in his second over, the second of which was an absolute beauty.

After getting opener Liam Banks stumped on the third ball of his second over, Pope accounted for England skipper Harry Brook with a brilliant googly on the very next delivery, Brook looked absolutely clueless against the googly, as the ball passed through the bat and pad to dislodge the stumps.

Here is a clip of that wicket.

Meanwhile, Pope went on to take six more wickets, finishing the game with stunning figures of eight for 35 to help Australia registering a monumental win. England was all out for just 96, as Australia sealed their place in the semifinal of the ICC Under-19 World Cup for a record eighth time.

Hailed by many as the new Shane Warne, Pope had started his career wanting to be a fast bowler until his father suggested he turn to spin, a decision that Australia would laud and England would curse.

The Australian youngster had started impressing right from his early days. Across his three age-group tournaments over the last two summers – one at the Under-17 level and two at Under-19 – Pope claimed 54 wickets at an average of 16.10 in 23 matches. Last year, he picked 15 wickets in five games against the visiting Sri Lankan side in April.

“I’m still shaking. Quite unbelievable, isn’t it? It’s awesome to be going to the semi-final,” he had said after the match.
