Watch: Dropped From Test Team, Shikhar Dhawan Works Out Hard In Gym

Unfazed by the recent snub from the Test team for the ongoing series against West Indies, India opener Shikhar Dhawan has started working hard for the forthcoming assignments.

The last couple of months have been nothing less than a rollercoaster for Shikhar Dhawan. While he starred for India in the triumphant Asia Cup-campaign, he cut a sorry figure during the Test series in England.

Despite his known struggles in overseas Tests, the team backed him and it backfired.  In the first innings of the first Test, he got the start and was batting on 26 before poking at an away going delivery from Sam Curran. He struggled in the second innings too as he edged a Stuart Broad delivery to the wicketkeeper after scoring 13.

Consequently, he lost his place in the team for the Lord’s Test. But he made a comeback in the team after Murali Vijay flopped. In his comeback game, he had good starts but couldn’t capitalise on them. Then innings of 23 and 17 in the fourth game further piled pressure on him.

And the southpaw ended the tour on a dismal note by scoring 3 and 1 in the final Test.

But as soon as the colour of the ball and the jersey changed, Dhawan was back to his devastating best. The left-handed batsman starred for India as the Men in Blue won the Asia Cup. He scored two centuries to finish the competition as the top-scorer and scoop the Man of the Tournament award.

However, the selectors did not reward him for his performance in ODIs as they dropped him for the West Indies Tests. But Dhawan is not bogged down by the latest setback. He posted a video of himself on Instagram working out in gym, writing:

“Holidays doesn’t make any difference to me. Nothing stops me from training.”

Shikhar Dhawan is likely to return to action for India when the ODI series gets underway against West Indies later this month.
