Fakhar Zaman‘s first World Cup knock ended in a bizarre way as he failed to get going in the ongoing match between West Indies and Pakistan at Trent Bridge. The left-handed batsman started well after Jason Holder won the toss and decided to field first. Fakhar got going by flicking Holder for a huge six in the very second over of the innings.

He hit two more boundaries before a short ball from Andre Russell brought about his downfall. On the fifth delivery of the sixth over, Russell bowled a short delivery directed at Fakhar’s body. The Pakistan opener, in reply, did not duck and decided to take Russell on by going for a pull shot. However, Fakhar could not execute the shot and paid a big price for it.

The ball came to him quicker than he anticipated and thus Fakhar was late for the pull. The ball hit him on the glove then on the grill of the helmet before hitting the stumps, making Russell jubilant. Fakhar departed after scoring 22.

Pakistan, meanwhile,  will have to get rid of their recent poor form in order to start the tournament on a good note. The 1992 winners have lost their last ten ODIs as well as the warm-up game against Pakistan. Pakistan will have to be at their absolute best to get over the line against West Indies who are brimming with confidence.

At the start of 2019, West Indies drew the ODI series against England 2-2 to show that they are a force to reckon with in ODIs. The addition of Andre Russell to the team has only made them stronger. The Jason Holder-led side have already shown what to expect from them by smashing 421 against New Zealand in their warm-up clash.
