Things have fallen in place so far this year for MS Dhoni after a forgettable 2018.  The former India skipper had managed to score just 275 runs in 20 ODIs last year. His strike-rate and average in 2018 was his worst-ever in a calendar year since his debut in 2004. However, Dhoni has started the World Cup-year on a bang.

He scored three consecutive fifties to guide India to a historic series win in Australia. Dhoni’s first knock this year was a bitter-sweet note. Although he scored a fifty in the first ODI against Australia, he faced criticism for consuming as many as 96 deliveries as India lost the game by 34 runs. But in just the following game, he made a big mark with both wicketkeeping gloves as well as the bat.

He scored an unbeaten fifty and shared fifty-plus stands with Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik to take India home and level the series.  In the third ODI, he once again starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 87 as India beat Australia by 7 wickets to win the three-match series 2-1. It was India’s first bilateral ODI series win Down Under.

The right-hander won the Man of the Series award for scoring 193 runs at an astronomical average of 193. This was his first Man of the Series since 2011 and he also became the oldest Indian to win this award.

He also played an impressive unbeaten knock of 48 in the second ODI against New Zealand before missing the following two games due to an injury.  India, nonetheless, had gone on to win the series against the Kiwis 4-1. Dhoni was also a part of the T20I team but the visitors lost the series 1-2.

Dhoni is currently in India and is gearing up for the upcoming series against Australia at home. With no cricket commitment at the moment, Dhoni made a public appearance for the All Stars Football Club for an exhibition event. And it was enough for the fans to turn up in numbers to get a glimpse of their favourite star. In fact, the fans even blocked his car to get a selfie with him.
