There is absolutely no stopping Jasprit Bumrah at the moment. The India pace spearhead is just growing from strength to strength with each passing day. Just days after picking up 5 for 7 in the first Test against West Indies, Jasprit Bumrah terrorised their batsmen once again. On Saturday, he became just the third Indian to take a hat-trick in Tests to destroy West Indies.

In reply to India’s 416, the hosts finished the day on a precarious 87 for 7. Bumrah once again troubled the batsmen with his pace, control and movement in the air. The West Indies batsmen were looking clueless in front of him. That he conceded only 16 runs in 9.1 overs, tells you the story.

Bumrah, who also suffered a leg cramp and had to leave the field briefly, dismissed Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase to claim his hat-trick on day two. Bumrah joined spinner Harbhajan Singh and left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan as the only Indians to take Test hat-tricks. He first made Bravo edge one to the slips before Brooks was leg-before. It then required a television review from India captain Virat Kohli to confirm Chase’s dismissal after on-field umpire Paul Reiffel had turned down the lbw appeal.

Before his hat-trick, Bumrah had already dismissed John Campbell, Kraigg Brathwaite and West Indies captain Jasprit Bumrah.  Any hope of Bumrah taking all ten wickets in the innings had ended when Mohammed Shami dismissed Shimron Hetmyer. By the time the stumps was called, Bumrah’s figures read 6 for 16 from 9.1 overs.

Here is a clip of his sensational hat-trick:

Earlier on the day, Hanuma Vihari had earlier completed his maiden Test hundred to help India cross the 400-run mark. Vihari was the last Indian wicket to fall. Prior to his dismissal, he faced 225 deliveries in which he hit 16 boundaries. Ishant Sharma gave him good support by scoring his maiden fifty and adding 112 runs for the eighth wicket.
