The upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka will mark the return of Jasprit Bumrah to international cricket. India will host the Islanders for three T20Is with the series getting underway on January 5 in Guwahati. Jasprit Bumrah will be looking to hit the ground running when he leads the pace attack once again.

He has not played any competitive game since the two-match Test series in West Indies due to a stress fracture in his back. In both the games against West Indies, he had picked up five-wicket hauls including a hat-trick as India clean swept the series.

He was named in the squad for the three-match Test series against South Africa but was later ruled out due to the back injury. He had also visited the UK with the National Cricket Academy’s chief physiotherapist Ashish Kaushik and consulted specialists to treat the back problem.

Fortunately, he did not need a surgery and has managed to recover completely after a rehabilitation programme. Last month, he was seen bowling to his India teammates in the nets before the second ODI against West Indies in Visakhapatnam.

The right-arm pacer had looked in fine rhythm and he has now once again showed that he is ready to deliver against Sri Lanka. Ahead of the first T20I, the BCCI posted a clip of Jasprit Bumrah cleaning up stumps with ease. Well, while the Indian fans will definitely love the video, it is bound to make the Sri Lankan team-management worried.

Here is that tweet from the BCCI:

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will have a chance to enter record books in the first T20I. Having taken 51 wickets for India in the shortest format of the game so far, he needs only two wickets to surpass Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal to become the leading wicket-taker in the T20Is.
