When New Zealand lost to England in the Rugby World Cup semifinal last month, New Zealand allrounder Jimmy Neesham had posted an interesting tweet. The Black Caps star had posted a screenshot of his cell-phone on Twitter after muting ‘World Cup’, ‘England’ and ‘2019’ for ‘forever’. Well, 2019 and England once again came back to haunt Jimmy Neesham on Sunday in Auckland.

The allrounder failed to defend 16 runs in the final over of England’s innings during the fifth T20I before the visitors once again won the super over, bringing back the memories of this year’s World Cup. Neesham was in the middle, distraught with the bat in his hand as England celebrated their World Cup triumph.

And the allrounder could not avoid another similar incident on Sunday as England beat New Zealand to win the five-match series 3-2. When New Zealand ended their innings on 146 for 5 in just 11 overs, it looked like they would register a comfortable win. Their chances of winning the game easily further brightened up when Tom Banton and in-form James Vince departed for 7 and 1 respectively. Skipper Eoin Morgan started well with the bat but could not last long and departed after scoring 17 from 7.

However, England staged a brilliant fightback to keep the contest alive. The equation was finally down to 16 from the last over with Jimmy Neesham being the bowler. He started well by giving away only three runs and pickingup the wicket off Tom Curran, off the first three deliveries. However, Chris Jordan struck a six over, took a double before hitting a four to level the scores.

And as soon as the ball crossed the boundary ropes, the cameras caught the reaction of Jimmy Neesham. The allrounder stood in the middle of the pitch while sporting a wry smile.

Here is a clip of Jimmy Neesham’s reaction:

Meanwhile, England comfortably beat New Zealand in the super over. After scoring 18, the visitors restricted the hosts to just 8.
