Who would have thought that Lasith Malinga, one of the best fast-bowlers of this generation, would rely on spin bowling to get some wickets. Away from international cricket at the moment, the veteran pacer was seen bowling spin during  a domestic match. Malinga was Teejay Lanka and played a crucial rule to guide his side to victory over LB Finance in the final of the MCA ‘A’ division knockout tournament.

Not surprisingly, the highlight of the final was Malinga’s off-spins.  The 34-year old bowled the spins with almost the same side-arm action with his run-up or shall we say almost non run-up being the only difference. Interestingly, he also managed to pick up three wickets as LB Finance finished at 125/7 in 25 overs, losing the match by 82 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method.

Here is the clip showing Malinga bowling spin:

Meanwhile, the pacer has lost his permanent place in the ODI team due to his indifferent showing with the ball since he returned from a long injury layoff during the Champions Trophy. Malinga, who recently became just one of the few Pacers to have picked up 300 wickets in the 50-over format, has played 13 games since the Champions Trophy but has managed to pick up  just 10 wickets and was recently dropped from the team for the Pakistan series.

During the India series, he had also said assess his future in the coming days.

“I’m playing after 19 months following a leg injury. In the Zimbabwe and India series, I couldn’t play well. I’ll see where I’m at after this series, and evaluate how long I can play given the way my body is. No matter how experienced I am – if I can’t win a match for the team and do what the team needs, there’s no point in me being here,” he had said.
