Watch: Mayank Agarwal's First Batting Session With Team India As He Looks To Impress

After scoring heavily for over a year, Mayank Agarwal finally made it to Team India for the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies.

The Karnataka star has not looked back since the breakthrough season last year. Agarwal had one of the best seasons in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy ever for a domestic cricketer. He amassed 1160 runs in 13 innings. In November 2017, he scored his maiden triple century in first-class cricket, when he made 304 not out batting against Maharashtra.

He followed it up by amassing 723 runs in 8 matches at a staggering average of 90.37 in the 2017-18 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He thus became the highest run-getter in one season of the tournament. The record for the most runs in a List-A tournament was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar who scored 673 runs in the 2003 ICC World Cup.

When the 2017-18 season ended, Agarwal had the most number of runs across all formats. He scored 2,141 runs across all formats in 2017-18. In June 2018, he was awarded with the Madhavrao Scindia Award For The Highest Run-Scorer In Ranji Trophy by the BCCI.

Those performances soon saw him getting a place in the India A side and Agarwal impressed once again. He smashed two centuries for India A in the triangular series in England this summer. He followed it up with 220 against South Africa A in an unofficial Test in August. The right-hander then hit 236 runs in four outings in the Quadrangular A series. Agarwal then scored 80 and 47 in a four-day game against Australia A earlier in September.

He warmed up for his maiden Test series by scoring 90 against West Indies in a warm-up game. And to ensure that he justifies the hype surrounding himself, Agarwal was seen sweating it out in the nets.

BCCI took to Twitter to post a video of Mayank Agarwal’s first net session with the Indian team.

“When @mayankcricket had his first stint in the #TeamIndia nets at Rajkot. That sweet sound off the bat,” BCCI wrote on Twitter.

The first Test starts on October 4 at Rajkot.
