The year 2019 has not panned out in an expected manner for India spin star Ravichandran Ashwin. Not very long ago, he was an automatic choice in the playing eleven. However, things have changed now. Ravichandran Ashwin has remarkably fallen down the pecking order in recent months and bowled for the first time in international cricket on Thursday during the ongoing first Test against South Africa.

Well, it did not take him long to make India realise what he is capable off. The Tamil Nadu man castled South Africa opener Aiden Markram. It took Ravichandran Ashwin only three overs to give India the first breakthrough. It was a flighted and spinning delivery from Ashwin.

Markram, who had scored a century in the warm-up game last week, pushed forward to defend the ball. However, he left a gap between bat and pad and Ashwin brilliantly sneaked the ball through that gap to disturb the timbers.

Here is a clip of the dismissal:

South Africa, meanwhile, are already on the backfoot in the game. Nothing much has gone right for South Africa in the game. Batting first,  India openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal piled misery on the visitors. The tourists could not take a single wicket on the opening day before rain ended the day prematurely.

Nothing much changed on day two either as Rohit and Agarwal started in same manner after sharing an unbeaten 202-run stand on the previous day. Agarwal reached his century in the first session itself while Rohit crossed his 150-run mark. South Africa finally had something to cheer for when Keshav Maharaj dismissed Rohit.

The right-handed batsman, who was playing as a Test opener for the first time, scored 176 and shared a 317-run stand with Agarwal. South Africa then dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli cheaply but it did not bring any respite as Agarwal continued his strong show. The Karnataka man soon scored his first double century before being dismissed for 215.

India eventually declared on 502 for 7. In reply, South Africa ended day two on 39 for 3.
